Licensed to Thrash (1988)

Agressor was a French death/thrash band formed in the mid-'80s. In 1988, they re-recorded material from their Satan's Sodomy demo for a split release with Loudblast. This material was eventually issued on its own as an E.P. Though short, it's a solid dose of old school death/thrash, with Agressor leaning more into the thrash side than on later releases.

This isn't nearly as raw or chaotic as one might expect. "Black Church" is probably the darkest track here, but overall, the sound is surprisingly controlled. The songwriting and musicianship are tighter than on the original demo, with well-thought-out structures, sharp riffs, and some solid solos.

One can hear similarities to bands like Sarcofago and Destruction. The latter seemed to have influenced the vocals somewhat, with some of those unfortunate higher screams attempted from time to time. Still, Agressor showed real potential with these songs. It might not sound as evil as it looks, but it’s well worth a listen.
