Achieve the Mutilation (1989)

The first Amputation demo, Achieve the Mutilation, was released in 1989. The style on this recording is death/thrash reminiscent of the Brazilian scene of the time. Even the vocals are similar to early Sepultura. The sound is somewhat abrasive and raw, especially the hellish solos, and this adds to the chaotic feeling of the music. The band plays with real ferocity, and though it isn't the most tight, the energy and aggression give the material a sense of urgency. At times it feels like there is barely any structure to these songs, as if they're just possessed and caught in a storm of frenzied riffs and blasting drums. Actually, it's too bad these guys didn't continue in this raw and ugly style. At any rate, if you're into violent '80s death/thrash, this deserves a listen.
