A View of the Other Side (1988)

Explicit Hate was a lesser known band from Brazil, though it's difficult to see why. Whatever the story is regarding their rather brief existence, it sure had nothing to do with the quality of the music. Released in 1988, A View of the Other Side is their one and only full-length album. This is a really good mix of thrash and death metal.
The production is not bad at all, especially for Brazilian standards. It's not as raw as Morbid Visions but not as muffled and clunky as most of the other releases from that scene. It still has a gritty sound even though it's cleaned up compared to the raw chaos of their demos. The songwriting is solid and the playing is tight but the lead guitar solos deserve special mention. One can hear traces of early Slayer and Death but at times the solos almost lean toward something more melodic but never fully commit.
The vocals, raspy and vicious, are perfectly suited to the aggressive material. Both the guitarist and drummer share vocal duties, their hellish screams adding to the vicious feeling of A View of the Other Side. While tracks like "Invasion from Inside" and "Suicidal Mankind" stand out, the entire album remains consistent and high quality. IF you're into old Sepultura, Kreator, Possessed, Sodom, Bathory, etc then give this a listen.
