The Unholy One (1992)

Released in 1992 through Cogumelo Records, The Unholy One is the debut L.P. from Expulser. This is raw and blackened Brazilian death/thrash with strong influences from albums like I.N.R.I. and Sexual Carnage.

This record came at just the right time as both of those bands had moved away from that sound by then. At first glance it seems to simply carry this tradition on with violent songs that blast forth with relentless intensity accompanied by hellish deathvomits. Listen more closely and you’ll notice the playing is a bit more precise. Tremolo melodies similar to those found on Altars of Madness appear here and there, such as on "Gore Pussy of the Virgin", adding another layer to the foundation of underground Brazilian evil. Even the lead guitar solos are slightly more melodic and less chaotic than one might expect.

All in all The Unholy One is a very strong album and definitely recommended for those into early Sepultura, Sarcófago, Sextrash and Morbid Angel. Highlights include "Bleeding at the Cross" and "The Evil Orgasm".
