Głos śmierci (1989)

Released in November 1989, Głos śmierci is the third demo from Polish thrash band Necrofobic. The style here is somewhat primitive, with noticeable influences from early Slayer, Celtic Frost, and even traces of Death in some of the riffs. The production is rough, like a copy of a chewed-up tape. Nevertheless, you can still make out all of the instruments, even if things are a bit muddy. The vocals are muffled and buried in the mix, but harsh, sounding like a flawed attempt at death growls.
The songwriting is solid, with tight playing, seamless transitions between riffs, and well-executed tempo changes throughout each track. There are subtle bits that help build tension and atmosphere, such as in the latter half of "Oczekuj agonii". The lead guitar solos add some depth and melody, unlike the more chaotic approach taken by many of Necrofobic's peers in the Polish scene. The most vicious and evil-sounding song here is "Zabijąc", which borders on proto-death metal at times. This whole thing feels and sounds like something that could have been recorded in ’85 or ’86.
Głos śmierci is yet another solid demo from Poland's thriving underground. If you're into raw, morbid thrash demos, definitely give this a listen. Highlights include "Gnijący mózg", "Kiedy będziesz umierał", and "Zabijąc".
