Game Over (1986)

Nuclear Assault released their first record, Game Over, in October 1986. This is fast, energetic thrash metal that features a ton of killer riffs and great lead guitar solos. The vocals are pretty horrible to be honest and almost caused me to write the band off years ago, but they sort of grow on you. The fact is that the music is too good to let this get in the way.

The songwriting isn't one-dimensional by any means. The intros to songs like "After the Holocaust" and especially "Brain Death" give a bit of an epic feel to things. There are a lot of memorable songs on here but the highlights have to be the openers, "Live, Suffer, Die", "Sin" and "Cold Steel". Nuclear Assault definitely thrived on these faster and more thrashy songs. At any rate, Game Over is a very solid '80s thrash metal album, despite the vocals, and well worth a listen.
