Ritually Abused (1988)

Num Skull's 1988 debut, Ritually Abused, is a vicious assault of death/thrash with sinister vocals and a raw sound. The riffs are scathing and rip right through your face, while the searing solos add a hellish edge to the violent onslaught. There's a primal aggression here that’s impossible to deny, pushed even further by the rough production.
The guitars have a razor-sharp edge, the solos are piercing, and the vocals sound like possessed screams from the abyss. This is reminiscent of Minotaur and Morbid Saint, but even better. There's so much fury and hatred overflowing from this record, from the flesh-melting riffs to the almost hysterical vocal delivery.
This band should be way more well known. Honestly, I wonder if the stupid name held them back. My first instinct was to assume it was some idiotic party thrash band, which couldn’t be farther from reality. This is the kind of relentless death/thrash that utterly slaughters the mediocrity that was already infecting the established names by this time.
The musicianship is tight and focused. While Slayer, Possessed, Sodom, and Kreator were already going soft and watering things down, these guys were out for blood. Standout tracks include "Death and Innocence", "No Morals", and "Rigor Mortis". If you’re into Merciless, Protector, or the early stuff from those other bands before they cleaned up their sound, Ritually Abused is highly recommended!
