Terrible Ceremonic (1988)

Terrible Ceremonic is the second demo from the Polish band Prosector, recorded in November 1988. This is intense, hellish death/thrash in line with what fellow Poles such as Ghost, Terminator and Thanatos were doing around the same time. Musically, this owes a bit to early Slayer, Dark Angel and Sodom, while the vocals possess the kind of bestial hatred found in the South American scene.
This demo is rather straightforward but also includes subtle touches, a bit of clean guitar here and a brief intro there, to add to the overall atmosphere. The songwriting is solid and the musicianship is fairly tight, with some small exceptions. These songs are filled with primal aggression but never to the point where things seem at risk of falling apart. The production is raw enough to match the material but never to the point of becoming messy. The guitars have a sharp tone that never gets buried in the mix, so every riff is heard and felt.
On one hand, there's nothing especially original here so it may be too much to say that it's a shame that the band disappeared shortly after this. Then again, what Prosector did on Terrible Ceremonic demonstrated their potential and they were just as good as the hordes of bands that did manage to release albums in this period. Either way, if you like raw, vicious death/thrash from the late '80s this will not disappoint.
