Mortal Organic Remains... (1990)

Sparagmos was formed in 1989, birthed from Poland's deep underground scene. Their first demo, Mortal Organic Remains..., was recorded and released in the autumn of 1990. Despite being labeled online as death metal, this is pure death/thrash with clear influences from bands like Slayer, Kreator, and Sepultura. The vocals are harsh and deathlike, but most of the material is built around killer thrash riffs. Chromatic death metal passages are woven seamlessly into the songs, adding a menacing aura to the aggression. The songwriting is solid, with smooth transitions, sharp tempo changes, and eerie lead guitar solos that add to the atmosphere. Some of the riffs and solos, like on "Getting Into Death," hearken back to Show No Mercy and create a nocturnal atmosphere. There is a strong '80s feeling that permeates the entire recording. And even though the demo is short, there isn't a single weak moment.
It's too bad that the few people online who even gave Sparagmos any attention still couldn’t be bothered to actually sit and listen. “Cult death metal with thrash influences,” “no one outside of Poland missed anything by not hearing this”... Just goes to show that posers even manage to talk about more obscure bands at times. If you're not a tone-deaf idiot and you're into dark and vicious Polish death/thrash, Mortal Organic Remains... proves that Sparagmos were just as good or better than many of their peers. This is definitely worth checking out. Highlights include "Radioactive Infection" and "Forbidden Heaven".
