Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow (1987)

The sole full-length L.P. from Germany's Violent Force, Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow, was released in November 1987. It was one of the earliest albums recorded at Karo Musik Studio, alongside the debuts from Assassin and Paradox. The production is raw and gritty, giving the album character and preserving the underground '80s thrash vibe. Most of the riffs have a relentless intensity, recalling early Exodus, Razor, and Kreator. There are traces of epic melody reminiscent of Show No Mercy, which adds depth along with the steady lead guitar work.

The vocals have a punk edge, similar to a rougher G.B.H., but turn harsher on the title track, which actually sounds better. He should have taken this approach throughout the whole album. The instrumental “What About the Time After” and “Destructed Life” slow the pace with melodies that nod to NWOBHM. Violent Force demonstrated real potential with Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow and it’s a shame they didn’t continue. Fans of classic '80s thrash metal should check this out. Highlights include “Soulbursting”, “M.A.O.T.”, “Sign of Evil” and “S.D.I.”
